FOUNDATION FUNDS DEFIBRILLATOR AT LYNEAL TRUST
Prees-based, The Grocott Family Foundation, has donated £2,000 to the Lyneal Trust to fund the installation of a defibrillator at the charity’s base, close to Ellesmere.
Established in 1985, the Trust provides accessible canal boat and canal side cottage holidays, as well as canal day trips, for families and groups with special needs or vulnerabilities. To date, over 20,000 people have been supported by the Trust with holidaymakers visiting from across the UK and sometimes overseas.
Accommodation comprises three on-site holiday cottages, the Shropshire Maid, a 70-foot boat for up to six people and a 60-foot fully-accessible day boat, Shropshire Lady, which can transport 12 passengers. The charity is wholly run by a team of 60 volunteers.
Linda Grocott and Daniel McGowan, Trustees of the Grocott Family Foundation visited the Lyneal Trust to officially hand-over the defibrillator to Trustees and volunteers.
Explaining why the life-saving equipment is so important to the charity, Trustee Ian Payne said, “While we do have a defibrillator on our day boat, we were conscious that we were in need of additional land-based equipment in the event of any emergencies on-site, particularly as we have many holidaymakers with complex medical needs.
“Following an approach to the Foundation for support, we were immensely grateful that they offered to finance the defibrillator and also its installation and management, and we were very happy to welcome Linda and Daniel to our centre.
“As well as providing reassurance to our many visitors, the unit will also be accessible to local residents.”
Linda Grocott responded saying, “The work that the Lyneal Trust carries out is exceptional, providing much-needed respite for people with vulnerabilities and also their carers. What’s also remarkable is the dedication and support provided by the 60 volunteers who make everything happen.
“Daniel and I so enjoyed visiting the Trust today and to see, not only the superb facilities it offers, but also its picturesque and peaceful location in a stunning part of North Shropshire. The team delivers so much joy to visitors.”
